On the counter at Dandy’s Furniture Store there are volumes of Customer Testimonials, with hundreds of happy customers pleased by the professional and friendly service from both staff and owners, Jeff and Jane Dandy.
Starting out in a partnership Jeff Dandy took over the running of the company after 10 years of successful business.
Now, as a family firm established in 1980, Dandy’s is appreciated locally and nationally for it’s personal and professional service, offering high quality furniture at realistic prices all year round.
Jeff’s wife Jane went on to join him in the business and with the help of family and friends they restored the old Pass & Co department store. Due to growing sales and a reputation that went before them, the number of staff also started to grow. 37 years in business and the shortest serving member of staff has been there for 15 years.
In August 1999, a new era began for the business with Dandy’s Furniture Store moving to 91-97 Duke Street in Barrow-in-Furness, where you can still find it today. The two adjoining shops had previously been owned by Harvey’s Furnishing Group, but with one of the shops held up by Hyrdraulic Jacks there was work to be done before the full premises could be used.
The Duke Street premises holds a long history as a furniture store with previous occupiers including Cavendish Woodhouse, Cantors and Harvey’s Furnishing Group.
Following their success at restoring the old Pass & Co building, Jane and Jeff wanted to restore Duke Street as another grand property in Barrow-in-Furness. To make sure the building was in keeping with Duke Street’s Victorian style they commissioned Barrow-based architects Craig & Green for the renovation.
A resulting feature of the renovation was the restoration and expansion of a lift, making all three stories of Dandy’s Furniture Store accessible to all.
At a later date Dandy’s expanded the furniture store further still, adopting the alcove into the former Brittanic Assurance Company.
