Dandy's The Independent family furniture retailer

  • 1980's

The business began in May 1980 as a bed specialist store occupying part of the former Pass’s Department Store building on Duke Street, Barrow-in-Furness, opposite the main Furness Building Society.

In the early 90’s Jeff and Jane Dandy acquired the whole of the building and the business expanded into solid wood furniture to complement the extensive range of beds available. The year 1999 saw Dandy's purchase much larger premises on Duke Street, buildings formerly occupied by Cavendish Woodhouse Furnishers and McAdams.

Craig and Green Architects were then commissioned to design a huge new shop front facade to unite the two buildings.

  • The design fitted perfectly with the architectural style of the buildings. After much work, new roof and replacement of all windows on the front elevations the transformation was now complete.
